Soccer season is over and you¡¯ve got a pile of photos and memorabilia sitting around waiting to be put into a scrapbook. A sports themed layout is just the answer. Sports themed pages are always fun to work on, and if it¡¯s for a child¡¯s album, it is also a lot of fun to have the child¡¯s participation in creating the pages.
Before you begin working on your pages you should:
1. Gather all the supplies you will need. The team photo, soccer portrait, candid photos, any memorabilia such as the season schedule, newspaper clippings, paper awards, and soccer themed stickers are all things that will make the pages interesting.
2. Sort through your pictures. Not every picture taken needs to go in the scrapbook. Choose four to five really good photos per page you plan on including in the scrapbook. If you are making the page for someone else, ask which pictures she would like included and why. The answers to the ¡°why¡± part often make great material for the captions to the photos.
3. Choose a color scheme. A very simple color scheme to pick would be one that matches the team¡¯s colors. For example, if the colors are orange and black, then a simple scheme would be to use orange paper as an accent and write with black pen. Using these colors will complement your photos and draw attention to them.
4. If you are making these soccer pages for a child, you might want to have the child write something short to put on the page. She could write about the most exciting moment of the season, who her coach was, who some of her friends were on the team, or any other memory that she wants to. This will really make the page special when it¡¯s viewed years from now, particularly by that child.
Now it¡¯s time to get to work on your soccer layout. If you¡¯re doing a chronological album for a child, and each year you include pictures from her soccer season, a two page layout will probably be sufficient for the album. Try this simple layout:
1. On two pages side by side in the scrapbook, place paper right triangles in a complementary color to your pictures in all four outside corners. The right angle of the triangle should fit in the corner. Then as a border around both pages, write words associated with soccer from triangle to triangle such as SCORE, MVP, GOAL, SOCCER, TEAM, KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL, etc. to frame your page. You might want to draw a wavy line between each word to separate them. Inside each of the paper triangles you could add a soccer themed sticker.
2. On the left hand page, place your child¡¯s soccer portrait in the upper left corner and the team photo on the bottom half of the page. Next to the portrait on the right would be a great place to add some journaling or the writing that the child did herself about the season. Under the team photo, try to write at least the first names of all the team members.
3. On the right hand page, place four or five candids. Crop from the photos anything that is unnecessary. Give each photo a descriptive caption.
4. Add to the page with appropriate stickers, but don¡¯t use too many. Remember, you want to keep the focus on the photos.
5. If there is memorabilia that you want to include that does not fit on these two pages, use a page or more after your two page spread to include these. Keep the same color scheme as the previous pages, again to draw attention to the memorabilia.
Another way to come up with a theme for your soccer pages is to give the page a title and work off of that. Here are some examples:
1. If it¡¯s a very young soccer player, the title for the page could be ¡°John Smith ¨C Rising Soccer Star.¡± Then use stars as part of your theme. Use colored paper stars to mat some of your photos or even cut one of the photos in the shape of a star.
2. If the soccer player won a special award for the season such as MVP, use that as your title and use it as the theme. Have photos of the player with any trophies or awards and journal about how the award made the soccer player feel.
Whatever layout you choose to highlight your photos and memorabilia, remember to keep them the focus of your pages. Use colors and stickers that complement, not compete with your memories. And, if possible, get the soccer star involved in creating the pages. |
