1521: Martin Luther outlawed by Edict of Worms.On this day the Edict of Worms was passed by the Diet (assembly) of the Holy Roman Empire held at Worms, Germany. It declared that the German priest and scholar Martin Luther, who proposed various church reforms, was an outlaw and a heretic who should be captured and turned over to the emperor and whose writings were forbidden.
