Old Bay showdownPosted Sep 3rd 2005 5:02PM by Nick Vagnoni Leave it to a Florida seafood lover to go up north to the Old Bay Peel & Eat Shrimp Classic in Baltimore and show them how it’s done. Eric Jones of Hobe Sound, Florida, won $10K and the adoration of, well, someone, I guess, by peeling and eating 89 shrimp in 10 minutes. I think it’s the peeling that really makes it a more impressive achievement. After all, these are shrimp, not turkeys. This was not just an eating contest, however. Contestants had to submit essays detailing their passion for seafood before being allowed to advance to regional competitions and finally to the nationals. Jones says he plans to donate a portion of his winnings to disaster relief efforts on the Gulf Coast. |
