Kiwi could help repair DNAPosted Jul 26th 2006 10:32AM by Sarah J. Gim If ever you needed a reason to eat kiwi, here it is: kiwi could reduce some of the risk factors associated with cancer. In a prelimiary study study done - where else but the home country of the fruit? - in New Zealand, scientists from AUT University in Auckland have reported that a daily kiwifruit, in conjunction with dietary advice and improved physical activity of course, led to a significant increase in repair of damaged DNA. That's not all for which kiwi is good. Studies from the same university have reported that kiwi have laxative effects and could help combat serious cases of constipation. The University of Oslo has reported that two to three kiwifruit a day can significantly reduced blood clotting in human volunteers and could offer protection from strokes and deep vein thrombosis. I'll be honest, I don't really a need a reason to eat kiwi, since I could scoop through three just for breakfast, but it's still good to know. |
