Candy Cane Kisses from Hershey's

Posted Nov 11th 2006 6:55AM by Nicole WestonFiled under: Chocolate, Candy, New Products, America

It looks like Hershey's has just rolled out a new limited edition chocolate for the upcoming Christmas season. Before I took a good look at the package, I momentarily thought that the Candy Cane Mint Kisses might be tiny mints that were shaped like Kisses, but it turns out that they are a white chocolate-based treat. The white kisses are flavored with mint and have red stripes on the outside. Embedded in the chocolate are tiny red nonpareils, which add a tiny crunch to the candy and look vaguely like bits of candy cane, though they actually have no discernible flavor of their own. The chocolate is very smooth and the mint is not so overwhelming that it would stop you from reaching for a second, but the Kisses seem to be slightly richer than average. Overall, these seem like a good holiday candy option to put out in a candy dish for occasional treat, but they're not so good that I would want to have a bowl all to myself. If they ever decide to put bits of candy cane in them, however, I might have to reconsider.

27. I haven't tried any of these new flavors, but "plain ole kisses" have been my favorite candy for years. Also, we discovered and fell in love with the strawberry cream kisses that came out some time ago, just to realize we couldn't find them any more. I guess they were just a temporary thing...?

32. Hmmm... I haven't tasted these yet, and considering the ingredients involved, I'm not likey to give them a try. White chocolate has always seemed overly cloying to me (what's worse, it doesn't fulfill my chocolate-craving-brain-chemical-receptor-sites) and, it becomes no more appealing merely with the addition of peppermint swirls. I agree with Nicole Weston, the candy reviewer: add some real peppermint candy chips to Hersey's milk chocolate kisses or dark chocolate kisses, and you might have a confection that would tempt me. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy to wallow in my rut of vintage/classic sweets, and pass up this latest variation-on-a-theme of empty calories.

33. Found them a coule of weeks ago at Target. They are good but I still like the Cherry ones. They do melt in your pocket. I agree they need to be not so limited on the flavors. Have not seen the coconut.

34. I have to be honest. I don't like Hershey chocolate. To me, it tastes like sugar with artificial chocolate flavoring. I prefer Lindt chocolates. The taste is so much better because the quality is better. Want delicious chocolate?? Try the Lindt, I am telling you...you won't want anything else.

38. I got a couple of little serving size bags at the walgreen checkout a couple weeks ago(they were 2/$1.00 or .59each) I must say they were pretty good, much better than some of kiss flavors. Like the story said the mint isnt overpowering. I think they did a good job at it. Too bad they couldnt do this good of a job with the cherry chocolate ones. I love cherry chocolate but their creation sucked. Too bad I cant find the andes cherry chocolate...they were the only decent ones.
