Rather like the side effect of drinking beer - urinating. Ergo, one must suffer seconds of pain for the pleasure of eating ice cream. Posted at 3:50PM on Jul 21st 2006 by brzustowicz 27. The most efficient way to reverse a cold subtance induced "freeze", is to raise your dominant hand above the area of pain, be it your mouth, throat or groin area. Then you proceed to xerox the afflicted "chilled zone", as called by professionals, and create friction by doing a mexican hat dance until area is soothed into comfort. Side effects may include headaches, vomiting, itching and burning, or pregnancy. Please see your doctor before employing this technique. Posted at 4:43PM on Jul 21st 2006 by IT Works 37. The reason for the brain freeze is that the trigeminal nerve supplies sensation to areas of the face and mouth AND also part of the meninges, the lining of the brain. The 'brain freeze" sensation is not a reflex, per se, but a case of what we doctors call 'refered pain', much like heart pain (or angina) can be sensed in the jaw or shoulder. Nerves that supply several territories can give the impression of 'false' or refered pain seemingly eminating from an otherwise unaffected area (i.e. clearly one is not putting the ice cream on one's brain.)
