21. How stupid. That has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Posted at 11:24PM on Jul 6th 2006 by Deannea 22. Well, I guess she's in a real pickle and needs to get out of it, but she'll have to get past mean Mr. Mustard first. The way to do it is to expose their secret love for Lady Vinegar. She's the villain. Have it out with her and leave Mr. Pickle and Mustard be. Posted at 11:48PM on Jul 6th 2006 by James 23. pickles are really nasty! they are my kryptonite. they should be banned from earth. i agree witgh this person. i dont freak or not walk down that aisle. but that nasty-ass smell......(hurl)comment as you like but i know you all have phobias too, you just wont admit them! Posted at 12:10AM on Jul 7th 2006 by jimbo 24. Maybe she just hasn't found the "right" pickle. Posted at 12:17AM on Jul 7th 2006 by r 25. Ha ha. I find it hilarious. SHes obviously faking or is psycho. But still amusing to the rest of us Posted at 12:22AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Jenni 26. Comments #11 and 12 come closest to identifying the real problem here. Many phobias, and this is a phobia, not obsessive-compulsive disorder, are metaphors, that is to say are symbols for the real issue. There is a possibility that this woman was sexually violated with an actual pickle, (the penal code for that is rape with a foreign object) but the more likely scenario is that she was violated by the real thing that to a child, triggers her into terror of an object shaped the same, which in this case is a pickle. Those of you who are judging this woman's obvious terror as some kind of fake Jerry Springer stunt are misinformed. Her behavior is clinically consistent with someone who is terrified. The nature of phobias is that they are IRRATIONAL fears. Posted at 12:24AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Susan 27. I was abused with green beans and peas and other types of beans...as well as tobasco sauce. I won't sit at the same table with any of them. I'm not afraid of them, I just avoid them. It's not something to "grow up" about it's probably a real fear for the person. Posted at 12:36AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Stephanie 28. What a BS! hahahahahaha. I am afraid of banana's....help!!....lol. Whatev! Posted at 12:36AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Christina 29. I knew a girl who was afraid of chewing gum... She doesn't mind so much when other people chew it, though. Posted at 12:36AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Raven 30. I agree with the people who said she was probably abused with one. That was the first thing that came to mind, so watching the clip made me angry--didn't it even occur to the producers of the show?? The girl may not even remember the abuse. I hope SOMEONE brought up that possibility to her. Sheesh. Posted at 12:43AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Julie 31. This girl is not making this up and is not crazy. I have the same fears plus many more. If anyone knows a good cure I sure would like to know. Posted at 12:45AM on Jul 7th 2006 by JK 32. I cant imagine what kind of person would be afraid of a pickle.. she needs to be locked up and kept away from kids. There are far more worse things to be afraid of then PICKLES. Posted at 12:49AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Rhonda 33. WTF? This girl needs to grow the hell up and get some real life ADULT problems! I think I'd be tempted to have my daughter committed for treatment if she acting that way over a FOOD of all things. I could understand an animal or heights of somthing that could cause harm, but freaking PICKLES???!! Come on... Posted at 1:01AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Dawn 34. This woman is in extremely torment. Although these fears seem crazy to some. They are very real to her. Who is to say that someone did not molest her as a child with something similar to a pickle or even a pickle. Whatever the problem is for her I pray she gets better. Fear in itself no matter how big or small is still truama for the victim. We need to as a society love them and be of encouragement. Speaking no evil of anyone. Posted at 1:30AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Sheryl 35. This girl may have been molested as a small child with a cucumber by some sick obscene person. It isn't funny whatever the cause and you people are all sick especially Maury who seems to get a big kick out of this girls misery. RN who has seen it all. Posted at 1:34AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Janice Tobergte 36. Obviously the girl is NOT faking. For those of you NOT in the know this could have been a sexual trauma that she has associated with the food or a choking incident, or She could be reliving an incident that took place in a past life. Many fears and phobias have been associated with past life problmes and can be easily taken care of with the right past life regression therapist and the right environment which the Maury Show was not conducive. The environment must be quiet and darkened and they must not fear the experience but rather see it as a movie with no association with them. Once the original trauma is relived it can then be dealt with rationally, and even turned off. Posted at 2:02AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Kim Walker 37. i am terrified of large statues and all animals. Zooaphobia they call it. My fears are real and actually devastting at times. We never know what has gone on with people. Although really unbelievable at times, I know some people do have weired fears. Posted at 2:09AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Sandy 38. IT SEEMS THAT MAURY POVICH WILL DO ANYTHING TO KEEP UP WITH JERRY SPRINGER AND THE REASON BEING IS THAT THIS IS ALL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SEEM TO WANT IS FOOLISHNESS AND EVERY SHOW HOST WANTS TO TOP THENEXT SHOW HOST AND THEY ARE ALL COMPETING FOR THIER LITERAL LIVES ON TELEVISION SO THEY RESORT TO THE REDICULOUS IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THIER ENDS. BUT MY BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT IS WHAT MAURY HAS DONE TO HIS WIFE CONNIE CHUNG, HE HAS BROUGHT HER DOWN TO HIS LEVEL. IF ANYONE SAW THAT REDICULOUS FINALE OF HERS, THEY WOULD ONLY HAVE TO NOD AND SAY "YEAH THIS COMES FROM BEING MARRIED TO SLEEZE SHOW HOST NUMBER TWO. HOW SAD Posted at 2:18AM on Jul 7th 2006 by BETTY MCCAIN 39. I'm not afraid of pickles, but I do have a phobia of medial needles. Not the needles themselves, what what the medical staff wants to do with them. And I can honestly say that I act like she does when I get in a similar situation, plus a nasty rash on my chest. You may think it's stupid or that she's a faker, but the truth is that you never know what someone is going to have a reaction to. My problem doesn't affect me on a daily basis, like a food phobia apparently can, and so I have never had a real reason to confront it. The only downside is that my wisdom teeth are loooong overdue for an extraction. (For your extra info, valium only made it worse, with a bp of 168/125) Posted at 2:20AM on Jul 7th 2006 by Grace 40.
