Don't Panic - Dinner's in the Freezer, Cookbook of the DayPosted Mar 10th 2007 8:05AM by Nicole Weston Even if you don't like cooking frozen dinners, you have to admit that they are very convenient and that the concept of pulling a ready-to-cook meal out of the freezer is a good one if you're simply too busy or tired to cook from scratch every night. Don't Panic - Dinner's in the Freezer is a cookbook that guides you through the process of making your own homemade frozen dinners. Unlike most make-ahead cookbooks, this one doesn't as you to cook the dinners before freezing them, resulting in a compromised texture when you have cooked them and are ready to eat; it calls for the dinners to be assembled and then frozen, so that they can be cooked just before serving. Canned and processed ingredients don't play a role here, nor do the semi-ubiquitous casserole-type recipes that often fill the pages of similar books. The recipes are generally simple, as they have to fit with the freeze-ahead method used by the authors, and lots of size conversions are given (a recipe will be scaled to serve 4, 6 or 8, for example) to make it easy to cook for any size family. Recipes include Lemon Glazed Chicken Breasts, Dijon Pork Loin Roast and Meatloaf. In addition to the main meat-based dishes, there are breads, muffins, desserts, soups and pastas. |
