K-Fed Super Bowl commercial controversy

Posted Jan 28th 2007 3:16PM by Joanne LutynecFiled under: Television/Film, Fast Food

I know a number of our readers work in the restaurant industry so I'm looking for your opinion here. A US restaurant association has expressed their concern over a Nationwide Insurance commercial starring Kevin Federline, which is set to debut during Super Bowl. In the ad, Britney's ex- is dreaming about being a rap star, but when he snaps back to reality, the scene shows him working in a fast food joint. A representative from the National Restaurant Association believes that it conveys the image that working in a restaurant is unpleasant and demeaning. Personally, I think a Nationwide Insurance official said it best: "We're not making fun of anybody, except maybe Kevin Federline." What do you think? Does this ad sound like it conveys the image that working in a restaurant is demeaning, or are people taking it a little too seriously?

22. It's a superbowl ad...it is made to catch the attention of the viewers. I believe that people are taking this too seriously if they find it demeaning. There is nothing wrong with working in a fast food restaurant or any other restaurant for that matter. If the commercial bothers you..relax..take a chill pill...and change the channel and wait for next years superbowl.

23. Are they demeaning when they cook your food or just when they serve your food? I am thankful for their service. They are working not robbing.

24. I've worked in fast food and it is demeaning, but it depends on the situation, is it a stop along the way to somewhere better or is it the main gig, there to feed the family and take care of life. If that is the case its sad. Yes its demeaning, its the bottom of the barrel and that is just the way it is, deal with it. Polital Correctness is bullshit!

25. In the food industry.I guess when your young you have to start somewhere, but I think its so funny that kevin F.has to go back to it, he's such a looser...for once it is about kevin F hahha. it was her money, now make your own lol

26. I don't think it demeaning. I think it's funnny. I can see it being for an insurance company like Aflac or something like to convey the message to make sure you have some money away for a rainy day. I can totally see that. I think it's OK and we all have dreams. And I guess being a rapper is K-Fed's or Fed Ex or whatever we are calling him this week. ;-)

27. K-Fed working at any thing is a joke, and as far as fast foods go,i know of people who raised a familey and put there children tru school working at one.

28. I worked at the Golden Arches during my high school years. Do you think I thought about getting a job at a Fortune 500 company or something that paid 15 bucks an hour at that age? Due to being able to cope with millions of attitudes from the customers that went through, it brought a skill to me in dealing with all kinds of personalities. Skills like managing teens and even seniors is something a corporate level company can't even come close to. Now I have a secure job in the 5 digit range, going on to six digits! We all start somewhere.

Sure we dream of being stars or being successful, but it is what it is, an entry level job. For a teen, that means dealing with the reality that this is a sure way to make money to spend on clothes, gadgets, friends,or to save up. For others, it is their way of life. If you are going to work, regardless of where, you made that decision and you have to put up with all it has to offer, good or bad.
I would be curious as to how the Insurance company deals with the backlash of hiring K-Fed, or the moron at the ad agency that sold them on this.

Working "WITH" K-Fed is unpleasant and demeaning!

29. Screw it, It's a job right? It puts money in your pocket when you need it right? Something K-Fed has no clue about. Some might see this commercial as a documentary of K-Fed's life, Lol dreaming of being a rapper and working at McD's. I can't believe that they would actually waste time and money making a commercial with him in it. It's not like everybody doesn't already know he's a loser.

30. Never mind the add or the political correctness, all this means is that Kevin Federline is continuing to get paid and has now created a little niche for himself as an all time loser. The problem with this image for himself is that it actually puts him on top because he continues to receive pay checks. The best way to put him down is to not offer him jobs. Call me a loser all you want, if I'm getting million dollar checks who cares. Not Kevin.

31. He is making fun of himself more than fast food workers ,Grow the hell up, everyone, even fast food workers realize what and why they are doing what they are doing. I would rather be a fast food worker than K-Fed. They can go up. He only has down to look forward to.

32. You know, if Kevin F. is finally being a little "real" with a sense of humor, there might actually be hope for him yet.

No one should take this as anything else but humor and someone allowing the world to laugh at them, then perhaps with them...

A guy married to "Ms. Millions", suddenly back to zero, doing a commercial about himself in a job just to get by, daydreaming about being someone else, etc., etc., toooo funny!

Anyone who see's anything else in this besides humor is taking themselves much too seriously.

33. If it was some 'unknown' daydreaming at the deep fryer, I doubt there would have been this much stink about it... I think everyone is just sick and tired of K-Fed and this is just extending his 15 minutes of fame.

34. Kevin Federline should be working in a fast food business. He does not have the talent or the brains to do any thing else. If it were not for his ex no one woulld know him. Do the world a favor Kev join the military snd really be someone to look up to.

35. I think that people are taking the commercial too seriously. I have worked in fast food and hey you gotta do what you gotta do! I appreciate the people more, who are willing to work in fast food and deal with all the nasty customers then those who aren't willing to find a job and just live off our government!

36. I'd be bummed out too if I worked in the fast food industry. Not because it's horrible to have that job or anything, but because that's not my dream job! I think people are getting too worked up over this; it's just another pointless commercial that's going to last a few pointless seconds. Besides, whatever happened to Freedom of Speech? Or is it Freedom of Speech Unless Someone Gets Offended now?

37. People are way too sensitive!!

38. ok here's my 2 cents. i've never worked fast food, but i have been a waitress off and on for most of my life. im a single mother who easily supports my 4 year old son on the tips i make. a commercial of a man who is only making fun of himself really, and what he has gone through...doesnt much offend me or make me feel like im a drain on society because i work in the food industry. its probably a funny commercial, so take it for what it is, laugh...or dont laugh, whatever, but dont think for a minute it is going to hurt my felings. however some examples of demeaning things about my job are when PEOPLE come in and snap there fingers like im a dog to get my attention, or call me by "waitress." i have a name, i introduced myself and if, by some chance u didnt catch it, i have a convenient name tag on to help u remember it. it is also demeaning when u feel sorry for the poor little waitress....dont for sorry for my please, i work when i want, and average about $40 an hour. im a college educated woman and choose to do what i do because i like what i do. how many of u can say that? stop taking everything so serious people, ur getting on my nerves, lol.

39. This is just a guess, But I say since he has lived in both worlds, Maybe his real thoughts were: #1 (The easy life he use to live * The great life of Britneys money*) And then he snaps back to reailty of the present:( That could be him in the future waiting tables for those of us that respect someone trying to make a honest living) That would make a grat commerical!

40. Fed EX is a pig.
Who cares what he does or does not say?
Just being him would be more than demeaning.
If it wasn't for Spear's bucks, he would be flipping burgers himself as soon as his dick droops.
