Taste Test: Diet Coke PlusPosted May 7th 2007 2:02PM by Sarah J. Gim You all know that I have a serious Diet Coke addiction, right? Well, if you didn't, now you do, and I have absolutely no intention of going into rehab for it. I have "quit" many a vice of my wild and trashy days, but Diet Coke is the one thing that I intend to hang onto to keep my life interesting. However, I do know how horribly horrible the stuff is. Dark soda stains your teeth. Any soda wears down your enamel. The carbonation causes bloating. The caffeine causes jitters. There probably isn't a single good thing about Diet Coke. Until now. I am talking about vitamins. Coca Cola has extended its Diet Coke line with Diet Coke Plus, which we mentioned at the end of last year. The soda isn't a drink to compete with the multitude of energy drinks out there, but something to ameliorate the damage of drinking nothing but trash (that's not part of the marketing, just my opinion) with added vitamins and minerals. I was skeptical about how much better for my health this would really be, and even moreso, about the taste (does anyone remember the disastrophe that was "New Coke?") I saw Diet Coke Plus in the market, so I decided to give it a go. Why not? It's not like $1.50 is an outrageous price for a can of soda. Besides, if the "plus" part really does have a healthy, vitamin-packed punch, it's worth it, right? Diet Coke Plus is supposed to have Niacin (vitamin B3), vitamins B6 and B12, zinc and magnesium. It sure sounds like a slice of fortified Wonder Bread! The can is still the regular 12 ounces of a regular can of soda, but has a straight, sleek design like many of the energy drinks out there. I'm not sure if this is some Jedi mind-trick to get energy-drink-obsessed people to come back to Coke (even though Diet Coke Plus is not an energy drink), or just a lark on the part of Coca-Cola. It clearly worked on me, because I bought it. So, how does it taste? I have to admit, that without doing a side-by-side Pepsi Challenge (oops! wrong taste test) with regular Diet Coke, I couldn't really tell that Diet Coke Plus was any different from the regular Diet Coke. It was just as fizzy and refreshing. I think I might have expected it to taste sweeter with this association in my head between Flintstones and vitamins. It wasn't any sweeter, and if the taste was at all slightly more bitter due to vitamin enhancement, I certainly didn't detect it. In fact, taking sweetness down a few degrees in any soda is never a bad idea, in my opinion. Would I drink this again? Sure, since I'm going to drink Diet Coke anyway, may as well get the benefits of the vitamins and minerals. However, I doubt I'd go out of my way to look for it in the market. I have been brainwashed into reaching for the familiar silver and red can, and popping vitamins on the side. Reviewed elsewhere: Diet Coke Plus at Baking Bites |

Forget vitamins, if you eat right you don't need them in a drink. Posted at 8:21AM on May 11th 2007 by Sylvia Wolff 23. I haven't tried it, and after reading all this, i probably won't. I am a Diet Coke addict. There I said it. I also tried Diet Coke plus. I don't know if it's a mind thing that I know it's different so I think it taste different, but I thought it tasted different too. I won't buy it again. I WANT MY DIET VANILLA COKE BACK! Posted at 9:11AM on May 11th 2007 by Raquel 26. I tried diet coke plus. Wasn't as impressed as I was hoping to be. Tasted flat to me. Didn't feel it gave me the morning boost I get from regular diet coke. However, my favorite is the cherry vanilla diet coke. I drink 6-8 cans/bottles daily. I do drink a variety of the diet cokes, but can honestly say I probably won't drink another diet coke plus. Posted at 9:15AM on May 11th 2007 by Becky 27. My friend is a die-hard Coke fan. When I approached her with an offering of a Coke Zero, she backed away like I was coming after her with a can of battery acid ! I see you Coke fans have your preference. Eat whole foods with vitamins, avoid diet coke, and stay clear of BS marketing ploys? I am no expert though... :oP Posted at 9:22AM on May 11th 2007 by Michael 29. I have always drink diet coke, but I will be the first the new diet coke plus is the worse drink I have ever put in my mouth.IIf you have high blood pressure, then don't drink it because it has 40mg of sodium in each bottle. I love regular Diet Coke> I drink about 2 liters a day. This Diet Coke plus is horrible! It has a terrible after taste and all that hype about vitamins is nonsense. I did try the diet Coke Plus, and must say, it was good! I would drink that over any diet in a minute. For someone who hates the taste of any diet cola, I enjoyed my bottle of Diet Coke Plus. Hats off to the Coca Cola industry! Posted at 9:59AM on May 11th 2007 by clrbnlee 36. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DON'T TAKE AWAY MY REGULAR DIET COKE. "PLUS" DOES NOT TASTE THE SAME AND AFTER MY TRYOUT PURCHASE, I WON'T BUY IT AGAIN.... Posted at 10:03AM on May 11th 2007 by Ruthie 37. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DON'T TAKE AWAY MY REGULAR DIET COKE. Was in line a Wall-world - so I grabbed a bottle of the "New" plus. To me it tasted FLAT! Posted at 10:06AM on May 11th 2007 by Charity 39. I agree that any soda, diet or regular, is not good for you. But, if your going to drink them anyway, why not drink the one that will give you some kind of nutrition? I know it does not take the place of healthy foods or vitamin tablets, but it IS something.(If you can stand the taste) I drink caffeine free diet coke, switched to that years ago from regular coke. At first I couldn't stand the taste, but I kept drinking, now I am used to it and a regular coke tastes AWFUL to me.So, I think as far as the taste of the DC plus goes, it's just what you get used to. :) Posted at 10:08AM on May 11th 2007 by KSmith 40. Eck... Diet Coke, in my opinion, is the worst diet soda out on the market. I prefer Diet Pepsi or even better, Diet Sprite. I might try the new one, but I doubt it will taste any different..:( Posted at 10:14AM on May 11th 2007 by Debra |

21. Not good at all. I think Coke is trying too hard... Either get closer to Pepsi or start laying off some people. Save you money!!! It is not working.
