High salt linked to stomach ulcersPosted May 26th 2007 4:14PM by Sarah J. Gim I might be in big trouble. Because I am a salt-a-holic. According to a study done by US researchers, the more salt a person consumes, the more active two specific genes become. These genes are associated with the potency of Helicobacter pylori, the bacterium that causes stomach ulcers. Stomach ulcers are bad, but not as bad as what it can ultimately lead to -- gastric cancer. Bummer. It doesn't mean cut salt out, but like with everything else, don't overdo it. |
