Banning junk food in California schoolsPosted Sep 7th 2005 12:12PM by Deidre Woollard California is getting ready to ban junk food in public schools. The statewide ban against some vending machine snacks in public schools would be the first of its kind. The move is one hoped to reduce childhood obesity by limiting access to certain drinks and snacks. The law has the support of Governor Schwarzenegger although some say that legislators shouldn't meddle between children and their parents and of course, the American Beverage Association isn't too thrilled about it either and other special interests worry about the revenue that would have gone to school programs. The new law should be implemented over the next four years. |
