GimFiled under: Lists, America, EuropeIf you've gotten nothing else to do this summer (personally, I look forward to the "down" time even if I'm technically not on vacation), you can always go to a festival. It seems that you can't go to a city, small town, or even a little village and find some kind of festival for something. And conversely, whatever pops into your head right now -- be it as everyday as a tomato or as wacky as tossing your cell phone -- there is sure to be a festival celebrating it, somewhere.Fodor's has put together a short list of some of the perhaps, well, lesser known, summer festivals. These aren't your local county fair. They've got wacky things in there, but of course, we here at Slashfood are most concerned with the things you can eat. For example, we just missed the International Cherry Pit Spitting Contest in Eau Claire, in Southwest Michigan by just a day (July 7), as well as the Milk Carton Derby on the southwest corner of Seattle's Lake Green Lake.Is there a wacky summer festival where you are? Let us know! I bet it still won't top La Tomatina in Valencia, Spain every August!
