What is your Ultimate Grilled Cheese? This is Mine.Posted Apr 16th 2007 12:02PM by Sarah J. Gim Given that April is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Month, I couldn't let the month go by without making, eating, and posting about grilled cheese at least once! Everyone has their favorite grilled cheese sandwich, whether it's a slice of Kraft American on Wonder White made at home, or some complex combination of fancy cheeses on fancy bread. People also have their favorite "accompaniments." My Ultimate Grilled Cheese is one I make at home: razor thin slices of sourdough bread filled with extra sharp cheddar cheese and thinly sliced tomatoes. I know tomato soup is a popular accessory to grilled cheese sandwiches, but I prefer just throwing fresh ones into the sandwich to make it easier. I have to cut the crusts off and eat them while I'm standing there over the chopping board, then cut the sandwich into long strips. When I eat them, I feel like I'm eating cheese-filled French fries. Now, what's your Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich? |

Nothing like a little butter in skillet, brown bread on one side, spread aldi's salad dressing (not mayo) on browned sides, place 1 slice of jalapeno or pepperjack cheese in between slices, brown outside of sandwich as cheese becomes hot and stringy. Slice in half and eat the best grilled cheese ever. Posted at 3:20PM on Apr 20th 2007 by Glynis 47. Great bread, whatever cheese is on hand...Havarti is amazing... a little mayonnaise---yes mayonnaise---on outside of each slice of bread and into the skillet. Works perfectly every time! Prepare your sandwich however you like (mine is 1 slice cheddar, 1 slice swiss on white with thin sliced tomatoes)...pop it in the microwave wrapped in a paper towel for about 20 sec. Have your melted butter in the pan ready on med low heat, drop your sandwich in , flip it right away and brown that side, then flip again and brown the other...the cheese melts perfect and the bread toasts beautiful...try it! Thinly sliced mild cheddar and thinly sliced tomatoes and some basil. Grill open. Close the sandwich just as the bread starts to brown. Then throw some parmesean in the pan and place the sandwich onto the parmesean. The the cheese crust onto the bread without burning. (Do this for both sides) Also works with finely shredded cheddar.
