Could straighter noodles help save the planet?Posted Oct 24th 2007 2:08PM by Marisa McClellan Recently General Mills, the maker of Hamburger Helper, announced that they were going to do their part to save the planet by straightening out the noodles in boxes of Hamburger Helper. Their thinking was that smoother noodles will take up less packaging because they settle together more easily. That will in turn make it possible for them to make the boxes smaller and then move more HH in each shipment. Problem solved! The folks over at the Environmental News Network have a bone to pick with General Mills. They say that tweaking the shape of the noodles will not have a significant impact on the health of the environment. ENN argues that until large companies like General Mills take a holistic look at what they make, how they make it and what they make it with, they won't have more than a drop of impact in the bucket of sustainability. |

Hey, why doesn't General Mills quit making that Bio-Hazard they call Hamburger Helper altogether? Idea ??Maybe we send a few skids of Gen. Mills Ham/Help to China and say, "look fellas, you keep sending all those lead painted toys to our kids, and we will start shipping Hamburger Helper to your wives in China. You boys eat a few chop stixs full a that stuff, and you will use enmamel paints forever." Posted at 6:07AM on Oct 29th 2007 by Mike 47. Does General Mills think the American Consumer is completely stupid? I'll make my family my own "Hamburger Helper." Doing it from scratch isn't much more trouble than pouring that stuff out of a box, anyway. Posted at 4:26PM on Oct 29th 2007 by michele 51. If they really want to do some good why not take some of the salt out Posted at 12:52PM on Nov 1st 2007 by dennis 52. Money-Saving Tips for college students: I eat HH by itself without meat. Notice HH is similar to Tuna Helper? Meat you add is YOUR option, so instead of hamburger, you can make delicious variations by putting these cans into HH: Tuna, Salmon, White Chicken, Sardines, Spam, or try your favorite dog food or cat food.
