Ice gets its freak on with Freaky IcePosted Nov 29th 2006 8:03PM by Jonathan M. Forester Have you had a Freaky Ice? It's a frozen alcoholic drink aimed at the hot 'n thirsty club crowd dancing till they drop. It started with the Dutch party scene where clubs wanted to provide something cold and refreshing to cool down the hot, sweaty dancers. They wanted to offer something fun that would fit the scene and soon Freaky Ice was born. It's a frozen, fruity tasting, 4-5% alcoholic drink in a self contained squeeze tube that fits in the hand and can be eaten while dancing or strolling through a crowded club. Basically it's an adult ice pop. It was originally made in the Netherlands, then brought to the US. It comes in three flavors: Lemon Stinger, Cherry Fusion, and Passion Cocktail. There is some big controversy around this product promoted by MADD, due to the similarity to child oriented sweet ice pops and that teens and kids might get their hands on the alcoholic versions and get drunk. So you may have a difficult time finding them because Freaky Ice has been banned in many countries such as New Zealand, Australia, Spain, England, Sweden; and in many US states including New York, where it is currently being made. There are also some similar frozen alcoholic products now being sold such as Fashion 'Ice and Pool Pops, but these seem to be limited to certain hotels and clubs. Nowadays I would rather have a cold GnT to cool down, but it wasn't that many years ago when I would have been clamoring to try a Freaky Ice when out clubbin' for the night. I bet they would go great with jello shots too and could see myself back then with one in each hand. Hmmm... Maybe there is something to the controversy after all. |
