It's not that I have anything against them. It's just that I always prefer to mix my own. I guess it feels a bit too Sandra-Lee-esque to go semi-homemade with something as simple as a drink. However, I agreed to give Metropolitan Martinis a try over the winter break because you never know if a company might have stumbled across a magic formula.Metropolitan Martinis come individually in a plastic martini glass that has been sealed off. I was trying the Apple Martini and was immediately put off by the color of the liquid inside was. It wasn't just green, folks, it was the most obscenely bright green color I had ever laid eyes on, something akin to Prell shampoo. There is no way on earth that any apple could be that color, unless it had been shot with nuclear power rays.I shook the martini in the glass before opening it because that seemed like the natural thing to do. It's a martini, and if you're as in love with 007 as I am, you take it shaken - even if it's being served in a plastic glass.If the color made me raise an eyebrow, the alcoholic fumes from the drink pretty much burned the eyebrows right off my face. It certainly smelled like green apple, but it also smelled like the green apple had been sanitized in rubbing alcohol for about 24 hours.I took a sip. I forced myself to swallow it, fearing for my health. I am not afraid of alcohol, friends, especially since the pre-mixed martini is a mere 40 proof. I was afraid that whatever else was in that martini was going to send my body into shock. I couldn't take another sip.Perhaps Metropolitan Martini's other flavors (Cosmopolitan, Chocolate, and Classic Vodka) are slightly less noxious. I am not sure, but for now, I will stick to mixing my own.
