Michelin is coming to Los AngelesPosted Mar 31st 2007 11:01AM by Sarah J. Gim Just after the recent announcement that Tokyo would be getting a Michelin Guide, we find out that the coveted little red book will be making it's way to sunny souther California. In fact, the Michelin inspectors have already landed and are working their way through Los Angeles restaurants. That's a very cool thing -- to have the guide -- but let's be real here. This is LA we're talking about. If there are only four restaurants in the United States that have earned Michelin's three stars, and only one of them is on the West Coast, Thomas Keller's The French Laundry in northern California, will there be any restaurant in LA that will earn three stars? I don't even know if any restaurants will earn two. It's not that the restaurants in LA are bad, nor is it the quality of the food. It's just that the dining culture is so casual. Well, we'll see. |
