Giada de Laurentiis gives "food porn" new meaningPosted Jul 23rd 2007 11:45AM by Sarah J. Gim I'll be the first to admit that FoodNetwork personality, cookbook author, and all-around celebrity chef Giada de Laurentiis isn't one of my favorites. I have no logical, fair reason, other than "she's annoying," because though she is "pretty" in a very standard view of what pretty might be (long, dark hair, cat eyes, deep cleavage), her head seems disproportionately large (physically, not figuratively) for the rest of her tiny, taut body, and when she "smiles," it looks so forced and unnatural that it almost looks like an evil grimace. However, I now have real reason to not like her very much: an odd set of photos at Esquire that, given that it were anyone else, would be fairly sexy, but with Giada, looks downright disgusting. |

Besides that immense head and those always-on-display boobs, she's got a smile that looks like she's showing her back molars to her dental hygenist. I always wonder if she ever watches her own shows 'cause I can't believe she would look that way intentionally. Posted at 6:48PM on Jul 27th 2007 by BigDLittlet 24. It is funny how men are "allowed" to dislike other people, male or female, without being presumed "jealous". But God forbid, a woman dislikes another woman - she must be jealous! There are many beautiful, talented and successful women who I like, respect and appreciate. Giada happens to be annoying as hell, but not because she is pretty (in fact, I usually have to "defend" her looks when my husband points at her "enormous" head - his words, not mine) and successful, but because she is unbelievably phony - from her wide-open mouth (it must take years of practice to talk with your mouth THAT open!) to fake mini-orgasms she has whenever she puts something into that mouth, to her manner of speech and the way she rolls her eyes. Oh, and I know all this because I used to watch her show (at least, unlike Aunt Sandy, the girl can cook), but at some point, I couldn't take it any more, she just makes me nauseous. She might be the nicest woman in person, but she conveys this overwhelming fake-ness on telly that makes her impossible to watch. As for the pictures, as some noted before me, they certainly would have looked sexier(if that was the purpose)if something like chocolate had been used instead of very-much-blood-like-looking tomato sauce. But hey, if she's happy enough with the pics to have them published, why would I care? Posted at 4:18PM on Jul 30th 2007 by Brooke 25. We call her Pacman... Posted at 9:22AM on Aug 4th 2007 by Crystal King 26. Are you people kidding me!! The reason why she pronounces her Italian words CORRECTLY is because she is FULL BLOODED ITALIAN AND THAT IS HOW YOU SAY THEM. Why would she "americanize" her Italine words. Stop being silly and broaden your horizens. Giada is stunningly beautiful (what do you want her to look like everyone else) and a fabulous cook with a fantastic personality. The show is not boring at at all, which is why she is doing to well. BRAVO GIADA!! Posted at 9:53AM on Aug 6th 2007 by Giovanna Cavalli 27. I love love love Giada. I think she is a wonderful chef and I have fallen in love with food thanks to her. I find that on her show she is easy to follow. I love the way she walks you through the process in a way that is never overwhelming and also takes time to really describe flavors and textures. I find her soothing. I have nothing against Rachel Ray but I can't watch her show. All that yappin that she does, mostly nonsensical just makes me uncomftable and nervouse. I think that perhaps some women are jeouse of Giada. If that is the case why not be inspired by her. Her is a young women who based on her public life litterly has it all. She has the looks, the body, the talent, she is able to bring home a lot of money doing something she is passionate about, she is happily married, gets to travel. She seems like a confident itelligent women. The kind of person I would love to know and like to be. Everyone has exotic features and to pick on the size of her head is just silly. The woman is beautiful, period.I think she is a wonderful role model for young girls. I can't say enough good things about her. I admit the Esquire photos were not my favorite. But I see where they were going and they have an artistic quality I can appreciate. Posted at 1:46PM on Aug 8th 2007 by gina 28. Who does she think she's kidding? Judging by most of the comments here, no one, thank god. Nothing -- NOTHING is about the food with her. It's all about Giada! When she does her Tasty Travels, she never talks to the people who run the restaurant or the other chefs there, which is what she should be doing out of respect and for the benefit of the viewers. And the way she treats her Aunt Raffy, whom she claims to have been inspired by! She gets her poor auntie to do all of the joe jobs while she flashes the megawatt smile and lets her tits hang out. Her aunt grates cheese and she goes, "Oh, GOOD JOB!" I almost expect her to pat her on the head afterward. As if the woman never entered a kitchen in her entire lifetime. Luckily, Raffy manages to get a few of her own sarcastic remarks in there. Smart lady. Posted at 7:03PM on Aug 13th 2007 by Lisa 29. I've read several of the comments on this blog and one in particular caught my attention. Scott said something about how he loves Giada's "pillowey chest bouncing up and down". I would say that's the proof in the pudding about what Giada is really about. I'm sorry, I'm definitely not envious of her. Actually she is a great cook (I've cooked several of her dishes myself and they are delicious!), and she is very beautiful, but this is the Food Network, not Soap Net. Do we really need that much cleavage on a cooking show? I don't think so! This doesn't have anything to do with envy but it does have something to do with the absence of decency. As much as I've tried, I just can't get passed the fake smile and the obvious way in which her "assets" are used (literally) to attract an audience. If many would admit it, it wouldn't matter if she made mud cakes and washed them down with ocean water, they would still watch her! I wonder how many of her present viewers would still watch her if she weighed 200 pounds and had say short hair but still cooked as good and pronounced her Italian words "correctly"? Posted at 4:34PM on Aug 16th 2007 by laura 30. I think Giada is a great chef. Her food looks very good and delicious. I've tried some of it. It's very good. I grew up with an Italian family. I'm full blooded. There are different dialics of Italians and their food. My Grandparents were from Italy and my mom learned her mom's and dad's and so did I. You have to remember that Giada grew up in Italy. There are so many different kinds of Italian foods. Things have changed alot too. The real Italian food is in Italy. Alot of people cook the American-Italian food and that is different. I think Giada is great. Please don't put her down for being a great cook Posted at 1:32AM on Aug 22nd 2007 by Kathy 31. I am a big headed Italian American so I think knockin' on Giada's head size is rude. What can a person do about that? I have tried many of her recipes and they are very good - not all pasta and carbs. We made the Grilled Chicken with basil sauce and it was delish. So is her Garlic Citrus Chicken. She is talented and beautiful and if you saw her bio on the Food Network you would find her even more appealing. It is not her fault that the network is trying to "work" her assets. I also like the fact that she pronounces ingrediants in the correct way. She is, after all, Italian. Mario Batali does the same thing. What so wrong with that? Posted at 12:43PM on Aug 30th 2007 by Tanya 32. Giada typical Italian, animated, transparent, dramatic, down to Earth, and beautiful. Posted at 7:33AM on Oct 12th 2007 by Vicenzo 33. What about how everything she makes is "crispy, crunchy..." And everything has limoncello or nutella in it! Come on! Posted at 8:54PM on Oct 13th 2007 by Yo 34. This chick is so fake. I don't find her attractive at all. She has a huge head, when she smiles it looks like she has a million teeth, she has a witch nose, she has manhands. 21. She pronounces ricotta ree-coat-tah because she's from Rome, not Duh Moines. Italian pronunciation is simple, predictable, and mellifluous and leaves only one way to correctly pronounce the word, unlike the predominant mispronunciation wherever you live. It also, no doubt, adds to the sensual vibe they're going for.
