Gardenburger files for bankruptcyPosted Oct 23rd 2005 12:20PM by Deidre Woollard This report on MSNBC that Gardenburger Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection scared me until I learned that Gardenburger will stay in business. I'd be lost without their breakfast sausage patties on weekend mornings. Years ago when I was vegetarian, Gardenburger was one of the few veggie burger options. Now there are a host of competitors including Boca Burger (now owned by Kraft) and Morningstar Farms (now owned by Kellogg). The article reports that Gardenburger will be going through a reorganization. The company has had an up and down past, reaching sales of $100 million back in 1997 but as the market got tighter, their sales fell. |
