There are few events in one¡¯s life that are more stressful than a divorce. Whether or not one is prepared for or expecting a divorce, it can really take its toll on a person, both mentally and physically. If you have a girlfriend who is currently going through a divorce or who has just been through one, chances are you have helped her with advice or just a shoulder to cry on. Your newly divorced girlfriend may be depressed or, in some cases, completely elated at her recent divorce, so why not get her a gift to help her through these tough times?
* Nothing says ¡°Let¡¯s relax¡± more than being completely pampered. If you can afford it, why not whisk your girlfriend away to a weekend spa where the focus can be totally on her physical or mental well-being, as opposed to her new divorce. If your budget doesn¡¯t allow it, you can get her a mini spa treatment that consists of a facial, manicure, pedicure or massage. Some massage schools offer reduced rates on their massages so their students can get some experience. Get her an hour or two hour long massage to help her relax for the weekend.
* Not all women love it, but sometimes shopping can be an instant stress reliever. Get your girlfriend a gift certificate to her favorite department store or shoe store or take her to a local town to do some antiquing for the day. She will be happy just to get out of the house and back to normal living again.
* If your friend loves different wines, look online or in your phone book for a local winery you can take her to, where you can sample different wines and cheeses all day long. Maybe you can start her on a wine of the month club, if your budget allows.
* Sometimes a woman needs help from other women to get her back on her feet. Go to your local bookstore and buy her a book that has a few short stories written by some famous strong women, like Maya Angelou. You can also get her a book of quotations that are meant to inspire and strengthen, or you could get her a biography of one of her favorite women actresses, authors or political figures. Reading a novel like this can help her put her life into perspective and open her eyes to new opportunities that are available to her.
* Maybe your girlfriend just wants to kick back and take it easy for a little while. Get her a movie or DVD that will get her laughing again, like any season of ¡°Sex in the City.¡±
* Your girlfriend might want to be alone or she might want to spend more time with her friends, now that she is a single woman. Get a group of her friends and take her out on a night on the town. You can go to her favorite restaurant, take her dancing or go to a jazz or comedy club.
* Grab your girlfriend and take a class together, like cooking or pottery or yoga. Why not take a class on auto maintenance or learn a new language, while you¡¯re at it? Not only will she be learning something new, she might have a chance to meet some new and interesting people. |
