If you are looking for a unique nursery theme for your child, try creating a ¡®Counting Sheep¡¯ bedroom.  Here are some ideas you can use to create such a bedroom and have your child counting sheep every night.

Floor:  For the bedroom flooring, a lush green carpet will provide the feel of a pasture and will be the perfect base for a coordinating mural.  If you have wood floors, purchase a green area rug with shag pile, a sheepskin rug, or an area rug with sheep theme print.

Walls:  A room with a ¡®Counting Sheep¡¯ theme calls for a mural treatment.  This mural should be painted on one accent wall, preferably next to the crib or bed.  Paint the rest of the room in a coordinating neutral color.

The first step in creating the mural is to create the background.  Paint the top two-thirds of the wall blue and the lower half of the room green to mimic a pasture. Instead of painting the entire wall, ceiling to floor, create a large cloud shaped window, indicating that the scene is a dream and paint the scene within it.  Next, you should draw a simple country fence that starts near the top of the green section and extends onto the blue.  

Once the background is set, you have two options for adding sheep to your mural scene.  The first option is to paint the sheep yourself.  You can draw them either freehand or with a drawing aid like a transparency projector.  The other option is to purchase soft sculpture wall hangings in the shape of sheep or sheep wallpaper cutouts.  You can also add numbers to the sheep, if you wish.

Furniture:  Just about any style of furniture will fit this theme; however, simple whitewashed furniture would be especially nice. Make the furniture further coordinate with the bedroom theme by replacing the knobs and pulls with new ones in the blue and green colors or in the shape of sheep or numbers.

Bedding: For the comforter, baby bumper, and sheets, you can purchase a variety of items with sheep print on them.  Another alternative is to purchase white cotton bedding that resembles goose down for a soft cloud-like appearance and feel.  A combination of the two would be heavenly.

Accessories:  Create a sheep mobile by purchasing four miniature stuffed sheep (smaller than 2 inches long) and one larger stuffed sheep (about 6 long).  Attach a ribbon to the back of the large sheep. Make sure the ribbon is placed so that the four legs are evenly balanced when hung by the ribbon.  Next, sew a ribbon to each foot of the large sheep, attaching the other end of the ribbon to each of the miniature sheep.  Hang the finished mobile from a hook on the ceiling.  

You can paint a scene similar to the one on the wall onto a ceramic lamp using acrylic paints, or you can purchase a baby sheep lamp from any line of sheep themed nursery items.  Finally, purchase more stuffed animal toys and accessories like ceramic banks and clocks to display around the room.
