If you want to do something for different this Christmas, perhaps you should replace your traditional Christmas tree with a neon tree. It will make a fun and bold statement, and your holiday d¨¦cor will be sure to stand out from the crowd.
Start with a white tree as your base. If you are foregoing traditional decorations, you might as well scrap the traditional tree as well. A white artificial tree will be a great complement for neon lights and ornaments. From a distance, it will look like a snow-covered tree, but up close, it will look modern and fun.
Use neon line lights. These lights resemble the neon party sticks that you use at nighttime parties and festivals. You can purchase them by the foot or in connecting kits. They are cool to the touch and can be battery operated if you wish to eliminate the fire hazard that traditional Christmas lights can cause. Line lights are available in every color of the rainbow, and can be arranged on your tree in many creative ways. You can add vertical stripes to your tree, put colored horizontal rings around it, or make a unique design of your own. If you do not like the look of the rope lights, you can purchase traditional Christmas bulbs in neon colors.
Tree topper: Use a real neon star as your tree topper. The only difficulty in doing this is the tree may not support the weight of a glass neon star. You will have to either build a support for it or suspend it from the ceiling above the tree.
Neon Christmas ornaments: You can purchase glow in the dark neon paint and use it to paint wooden or ceramic ornaments. To use glow in the dark paint, you would paint the ornament normally, then add details with the glow in the dark paint. For maximum effectiveness, you will need to make sure your tree gets plenty of light during the day, and it will give the light back to you at night. Black-light paint will also create a great effect allowing your ornaments to double as Christmas lights in a black-light lit room. Black lights are special coated bulbs that emit a faint purple light while causing teeth, white objects and specially coated items to glow in the dark. If you decide to use black light for your tree, you will have to live in a dimly lit room for a while. Your white tree will shine on its own in a room with black lights.
Outdoor Christmas tree: If you like to decorate a tree in your yard, neon lights and ornaments would give you outstanding results. You can wrap the entire tree in neon line lights, and paint large ornaments in glow in the dark paint and tie it to the tree.
Extras: To coordinate with your tree, you can purchase a real neon glass sculptured tree for your windows or the front of your house. You can also purchase neon wreaths, Santa, reindeer, and even a neon nativity set. |
