Those who have children know that - among the many other tasks to be completed during the Holiday season - there are always parties cropping up that call for an extra gift.  Whether it＊s for school, an extracurricular activity or neighborhood gathering, it seems that kids always need to bring a grab bag gift.  Parents all around the world know what this means: mom or dad has to determine what type of gift to buy, travel to and from the store to purchase it and spend the time it takes to dress it up in pretty trappings.  At this time of year, the last thing we probably have time to do is figure out what to buy for a children＊s grab bag gift.  Let＊s face it 每 we don＊t know if the recipient will be a boy or girl, what their interests are or what type of gift will be enjoyed for the price range that＊s provided.

In the spirit of helping ※thy neighbor§ during the holiday season, here are a few suggestions for unisex grab bag gifts that children 每 especially those who are between the ages of 4 and 8 - will find exciting.

ART SET

It＊s a rare child that doesn＊t enjoy drawing, painting or diving into a good arts and crafts project.  There are a number of very nice art sets 每 reasonably priced 每 which include a variety of tools, such as markers, crayons, colored pencils, rubber stamps, stickers and paper.  This will offer hours of fun for any child and allow the recipient to use his or her imagination in order to create their own at-home fun.

GAME VARIETY PACK

While not all kids appreciate the chance to play a good board game, many do, and most department stores carry a number of variety packs.  Among the more popular choices are packs which contain chess, checkers, Chinese checkers and dominoes.  Some packs contain dozens of games, which the players simply adapt to the main game board.  Others include more than one board 每 or game arena 每 and a number of styles of game pieces, exclusive to a particular game.

MAGIC KIT

Both boys and girls will enjoy the opportunity to learn new magic tricks that they can use in their endeavor to stage a performance for family and friends.  These kits include all of the necessary props and instructions to provide youngsters with hours of fun.  You can often find kits that are specific to particular age categories, either in department stores or specialty shops.  If you＊re fortunate enough to have a magic shop near the house, you might wish to make that your first stop when searching for one of these items.

SCIENCE KIT

These items are available in a wide variety of styles, depending upon the age of the child.  Junior Science Kits can be purchased for younger children, if necessary.  Quite often, these will contain a microscope, several slides with interesting specimens, blank slides, a book containing factual information regarding a variety of science-related items and a number of other goodies.  The models intended for younger children contain tools which are made from plastic, while the ones for the older set are typically metal-based.

SNOWMAN KIT

These make wonderful, and unique, gifts for children.  Complete with everything to dress up a backyard snowman - such as a hat, carrot, pipe, scarf, buttons and pieces of coal for the eyes and mouth 每 these kits will provide lots of fun for kids and their adults, as they share some quality time while building the snowman and dressing him up for the season.  Don＊t worry, folks 每 the coal and carrot aren＊t real, so there＊s no mess to worry about.  They＊re actually constructed of sturdy synthetic material so that the kit can be used year after year.

MOVIE PACKS

At most major theaters, movie packs can be purchased as gifts.  These typically include two movie tickets to the movie of their choice and a voucher for popcorn and a beverage for each of two people.  Of course, depending upon the price of the movie pack, you may opt to simply buy two movie tickets to the movie of their choice, which can be placed in a small box and wrapped as a Christmas gift or placed inside of a holiday gift bag.  Either way, the youngster who receives this will be happy, indeed.

CARD PACKS

Traditional children＊s card games can either be found in variety packs or individually packaged (in which case, you can include a few of them in a wrapped gift box).  These will typically include games such as Old Maid, Go Fish, Uno, Concentration and Crazy Eights.  While most department and toy stores usually keep these in stock, you can save a few dollars by going to a nearby Dollar Store and buying them individually.  These can sometimes be purchased in bundles, such as 2/$1.00 or even 3/$1.00.

COOKIE KIT

These are often found just before major holidays, and can even be purchased at most grocery store chains.  The kit contains a pre-baked cookie, which is appropriately shaped for the holiday, and a variety of decorator items.  Kids will love being given the opportunity to decorate their very own Christmas cookie, and then enjoy the extra treat of being able to eat the finished product.  Some of these kits contain a single cookie, while others include a second cookie in the package.

LINCOLN LOGS

This delightful toy goes back many years, but has always been a wonderful source of creative inspiration for children.  Any number of things can be assembled by both boys and girls who spend the day with a box or can of Lincoln Logs.  Certainly, since this is to be used as a grab bag gift, you＊ll want to purchase a smaller portion of the logs, but this toy comes in a variety of sizes, from small to very large.  There are also variations on this particular toy that don＊t carry the Lincoln Logs name, but are virtually the same item at a lower price.

GIFT CERTIFICATE

One of the great stand-bys of the American culture is the gift certificate.  These can be purchased for toy stores, music stores, restaurants and any number of other places that a child might enjoy visiting.  Depending upon the age of the child, and your economic condition at holiday time, you might wish to simply purchase a gift certificate that can be used in any store of a nearby mall.  This might not be a good option for grab bags that have, for instance, a $5.00 limit, but would be ideal for grab bags with higher economic ceilings.

Some folks prefer to fill a decorator tin with home baking to be used as a grab bag gift.  While this is a nice idea, and the cookies are sure to be tasty, it＊s not the best policy when you＊re dealing with children that are not familiar to you.  Due to a wide variety of food allergies, this type of gift can be quite problematic 每 not to mention, dangerous.  The same would be true, of course, for beverages or anything else that is intended to be ingested.
