Planning a trip with children may take a while to organize, but by doing so it will eliminate unnecessary stress and expense. Important travel accessories to take along for your children depend on the ages of the children, your destination, length of trip and stay, predicted weather, and activities planned.
Knowing what to pack when traveling with children makes any trip more enjoyable and less stressful.
One of the most important things you want to pack will be toys that can keep the child¡¯s interest for as long a period as possible. Since you want to make the most of your space, choose small items such as small books with push buttons, which are always interesting to little ones. Doodling materials are also good entertainers.
Electronic games, storybooks, activity booklets, videos, and children¡¯s favorite music tapes or CD's are a must for the older children. Remember to take along the earphones. Frisbees are ideal for encouraging exercise during bathroom stops.
In addition, children's eating habits are very different from those of adults; therefore it would be wise to pack several different containers of finger foods, including dry cereals, crackers, canned meats, and plenty of water, juice, and milk. Some diced fresh fruit and steamed vegetables can be kept in a cooler to provide nutritious fast food.
A few spill-proof cups are a must. They can be used anywhere, anytime, and can be cleaned easily. Plenty of wet wipes are always helpful for those quick clean-ups or for emergencies. Disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizers are useful when soap and water are not at your disposal. If your child is potty training, be sure to pack enough diapers for occasional accidents. A small coffee can or plastic bottle with screw-on cap is ideal for those youngsters who need to go when you are between cities or roadside parks. Remember to pack some trash bags as well. Headrests for car seats or booster seats, as well as window shades, are helpful for long or night time travel. If the air conditioner will be used, take along a light blanket to cover the little ones as they sleep.
Depending on where you will be lodging, consider packing a playpen, napping mats, or sleeping bags, small pillows, and your children's favorite blankets and sleeping buddies. A night light may come in handy for those small children who might feel uncomfortable sleeping away from home.
Essential first aid kit supplies may include: aspirin, pain relievers, fever reducers, allergy medicine, and antacids.
Plenty of appropriate clothes should be packed. Considering the weather, simple short-sleeve tops and thin bottoms are good choices. Take along a comfortable jacket or sweater that can be worn over tops. Of course, plenty of socks, underwear, pajamas, and hair accessories will be needed. For outings on sunny days, take hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug repellent. For cold weather activities consider sweats with hooded tops, boots, and warm jackets. Thermal underwear and thick socks can come in handy as well.
Although this may seem like a long list, you will be glad you packed every item mentioned. You will also save time and money. Planning ahead and being prepared is definitely the key to enjoyable travel with children of all ages.
