Wedding favors act as a special ¡°thank you¡± to those that help make your celebration special. Most include the newlywed¡¯s names, the ceremony date and phrasing of ¡°many thanks,¡± or a variation. While the traditional wedding favors of candy, pens, matches and napkins are still a great way to say "thank you," trendier, funnier and unique favors can add a spark to that "thank you" plus guarantee a wedding remembrance. Try a few of these ideas:
Blooming Favors
A seed packet or bulbs wrapped in cellophane and tied with raffia ribbon will suit a country or heavily flowered wedding theme. Guests that garden will remember the newlyweds with each flower that blooms.
If the weather, season and time are available, try creating a potted bulb, forced into budding or just blooming to make things even easier for the guests. A single, forced red tulip in the middle of winter may require a green-thumb effort but during a snowstorm, it¡¯s guaranteed your guests will remember you.
Try pots of green clover with the wording, ¡°thank you for sharing our lucky day,¡± if flowers seem overwhelming.
Cookie Cutter Favors
A heart shaped cookie cutter, tied with a favorite cookie recipe and the wording, ¡°Cookie ¨C ing¡up a lifetime of sweetness!¡± Add a few baked cookies to the package as a special treat.
Butterfly Release
Should the season and weather permit, a butterfly release is an extra special way for everyone to be part of the party. Children to adults will enjoy waking a butterfly from its sleep and releasing it in a whirl of color to the sky. Photographs during the release create a unique backdrop and anytime your guests see a butterfly throughout the summer, they will more than likely remember you.
Kissing Utensils
For the truly practical, create a small bag with mints, a toothbrush, floss and mouthwash; tie with an imprinted ribbon saying, ¡°kissing utensils.¡± Guests will get a quick chuckle but will remember you the next time they travel and use these necessary utensils.
Ornaments
Clear glass ornaments with the newlyweds names and wedding date, resting on a box of colored tissue will add pizzazz to the reception and present a reminder to guests as they hang the ornament on their holiday tree each year. For the artist, hand paint each one to suit the guest and make them feel extra special.
Charity
Wonderful for second marriages or low-key events, an envelope to each guest stating that a donation to a charity was made in their name is a gracious way to help others and create a warm, thank you to all.
Creative Couples
Offer guests a bit yourself with a favor that shares something about yourself as a couple and your interests. A CD of selected music favorites, or one filled with romantic music for those special occasions; a booklet of love poetry, or various antiques found on flea market hunts wrapped in tulle and presented to your guests will mean a great deal.
If budget or creativity is low and you plan to stick with the traditional favors, try to dress up the favor with its presentation. Try Chinese take out boxes, little brown bags, or an interesting fabric; use newspaper, old maps, twine, or burlap as an alternative to wrapping paper. Or even use a different method of distribution; instead of having the favor on the table, place it on the guest¡¯s chair, or under it, or have favors distributed by waiters. Another option is to create a favor table so guests can select one upon departure; but think outside the box on this as well, for example, if you have beach theme wedding, bury the favors in a sandbox so guests have to dig through to find their prize.
Keep in mind that this favor is the last thing guests will see and remember ¨C make it last! |
