It has been twelve wonderful years since you walked down that aisle tightly holding the hand of your spouse, ready for a new life together. The time has whizzed by and you have grown more and more in love by the day. On your twelfth wedding anniversary the traditional gift guide states that gifts of silk or linen are appropriate for this special year. Here are some ideas for silk and linen inspired gifts for your twelve year wedding anniversary.

* In the spirit of the great contemporary artist Andy Warhol, have a silk screen printed for your spouse. This process consists of burning an image onto a screen using a very strong ultra-violet light, which can then be painted in unusual ways. While any art can be quite expensive, to defray your costs, put up fliers at a local community college calling on art students to create a silk screen for you. Pick a favorite photo from the wedding or honeymoon to use for the silk screen pattern.

* Why not surprise your spouse with breakfast in bed and a gift of silk or linen pajamas or boxers. For an extra treat, take them out to a favorite bed and breakfast nearby.

* Invest in a beautiful silk or linen quilt and new bed linens (bed sheet, mattress cover and pillow cases) to replace your old ones. Have the bed made with the new linens when your spouse gets back from work or running errands. 

* If your spouse wears a suit and tie to work most days, invest in a dozen silk ties for him, or if she loves wearing scarves, do the same with silk scarves. You can wrap them nicely together or present them to him one day at a time for twelve days leading up to your actual anniversary.

* Present your spouse with a beautiful silk eye pillow. These pillows which are sometimes filled with relaxing herbs like rosemary or spearmint are used to treat tired eyes. If you want to take the relaxation theme a little further, pair it with a spa getaway that you will both go to.

* Linen clothes are probably the most comfortable clothes you can invest in and are great additions for the summertime. Purchase a linen shirt or pants for your spouse to wear. If your budget allows it, surprise them with a trip to a tropical location or a tropical cruise where they can wear their new linen clothes.

* If the way to your spouse¡¯s heart is through the stomach, surprise him/her with a dozen strawberries dipped in silky milk chocolate and some champagne to wash them down. You can also bake a French silk pie which tastes as rich as it sounds. Take these desserts with you on a romantic picnic for two. 

* You can also give gifts that are a take on the ¡°dozen¡± theme, like a dozen roses or other favorite flower. How about a dozen donuts or bagels to share on a relaxing Sunday morning or a dozen small gifts leading up to the actual 12 year wedding anniversary?
