You and your spouse have come this far with wedding anniversary gifts by sticking to the traditional gift schema. Now that you have the milestone fifth anniversary behind you, it is time to look ahead to the traditional sixth year anniversary gift that, according to etiquette books, should have something to do with candy or iron. Talk about two types of gifts that have nothing to do with each other. However, there is no rule stating the traditional gift has to contain both elements of candy and iron, so you can easily choose one or the other. Here are some ideas you may want to consider on your sixth year gift.

* Does your spouse have a major sweet tooth that can never be satisfied? Try satisfying his/her sweet tooth every single month for the next year by enrolling them in a chocolate of the month club. Every month they can look forward to a different type of chocolate being sent to their front door. Talk about the anniversary gift that just keeps on giving. 

* If you have a spouse that longs to be the next Martha Stewart or that watches Food Network and every single cooking show that comes on television without fail, invest in a cast iron cookware set for them. You can combine this with a cook book that deals exclusively with meals made using cast iron pans or with a cooking class that does the same.

* Maybe your bedroom furniture has started to sag and doesn¡¯t seem to be cutting it anymore. Go to a local furniture store and look around at some of the different iron bedroom sets that are available. Iron furniture is both classic and sturdy and will be an asset to any decor. If you have a friend who welds, ask him or her to weld a new bed frame for you and your spouse. You can even design it yourself, if you are so inclined.

* If your spouse likes to collect or look at art, buy them an original iron sculpture from a gallery of local artists or buy them a decorative iron piece, like a candlestick, mirror or vase. If your budget allows it and you think of it far enough in advance, you can hire an artist to create an original iron inspired sculpture for your spouse. They can recreate your spouse¡¯s favorite sculpture or create an original. 

* If your spouse loves to golf, then what would be a better iron-inspired gift than a new set of golf clubs? Perhaps both you and your spouse love to golf together? You can get a set of his and hers golf clubs with a monogrammed bag and engraved clubs. This is a gift you can decide to give each other together since it would be a pretty heft investment.

* Maybe you are not really sure what gift to give your spouse, and you are not too impressed with the idea of iron themed gifts. Bake a cake and hide a boxed gift inside, like a new watch or some jewelry. Decorate the cake with sugared candies and let your spouse discover the treasure inside.
