It isn¡¯t always easy for busy stay-at-home moms to budget their time wisely. Between kids and day-to-day chores, house moms often forget to set aside free time for themselves. This can generate a lot of unnecessary stress that often effects the entire family. Organizing your household work schedule is the first step to creating more free time for yourself and your family.
Keeping the house clean can be a daunting task. It¡¯s not so easy to find the time to clean the entire house in one day ¨C especially when taking care of kids and other responsibilities. Try to do just one major chore each day such as vacuuming, mopping the floors, dusting, changing bed linens, cleaning bathrooms, or any other time-consuming weekly task. Doing one large chore Monday through Friday, along with smaller daily chores such as cooking, washing clothes, and doing dishes will keep the house relatively clean all week long. By the time the weekend rolls around you¡¯ll be able to sit back and relax.
Assign chores to family members according to their ages and capabilities. Even if children don¡¯t do as thorough a job as you would, giving them specific chores is a great way to teach the importance of responsibility and cooperation. Toddlers can pick up toys and empty small wastebaskets. Older children can help unload the dishwasher, make their beds, and put their own clothes away. Everyone should have to pick up after him or herself. It¡¯s impossible for one person to do all the work, so teach your kids the importance of helping one another. Families should work together to keep things in order.
If you enjoy certain television programs, make the most of your time by doing something constructive while watching those shows. Clothes can be folded in front of the television, or you can dust the furniture while enjoying your favorite television programs. You¡¯ll get something accomplished, but your mind won¡¯t be on the work at hand.
A cordless phone is a wonderful tool for getting work accomplished around the house. Talking to a friend is a great distraction. Using an ear bud or headset will enable you to do work requiring two hands. Before you know it you¡¯ll have your work finished, and you¡¯ll be thanking your friend for the help!
Wouldn¡¯t it be nice to have a night off from cooking now and then? When you prepare dinners that freeze well, make a double batch and you¡¯ll have a ready-made meal for another time. Food such as soups, stews, and meat dishes are very good the second time around. Freezing is not recommended for recipes containing pasta or fresh vegetables such as tomatoes and lettuce. Remember to clearly label frozen meals so you¡¯ll know what they are as well as when they were stored. Some foods seem to taste even better after being frozen.
Keep household mail organized in one location. When bills arrive, mark the calendar according to when they must be mailed or when they are due. When they¡¯ve been paid or sent, simply mark them off so you know they¡¯ve been taken of. Using this plan for paying bills will help keep your household running smoothly.
Last but not least, set aside time to pamper yourself. Make time for a relaxing bubble bath or take a leisurely walk. Curl up with a favorite book or magazine or make plans to visit with friends. Every house mom needs time to collect her thoughts. It¡¯s not easy running a household, but it can be very rewarding when a plan of organization is put into motion. An organized household reduces disquietude and makes life much easier for the entire family. |
