Your baby¡¯s crib - it¡¯s a safe haven for sweet dreams, but it can be a place for your baby to learn and explore as well. Many babies will awaken from a nap or a good night¡¯s sleep and entertain themselves in their crib, provided there are some favorite crib toys within easy reach. And an occupied baby means a few more winks of sleep for you!
Here¡¯s a rundown of some must-have fun crib toys for your baby:
-- Crib Mirrors. Babies love to gaze at their own reflection in the mirror, so a plush version for the crib is a great accessory to have. Some good crib mirrors include 1st Mirror by Lamaze or Light Up Melody Mirror (Baby Einstein).
-- Musical Toys. Babies enjoy listening to familiar tunes over and over again. The Ocean Wonders Aquarium and the Flutterbye Dreams Lullaby Birdies Soother (both by Fisher Price) attach to the crib rails and provide your baby with calming music and beautiful lights and visuals. The Dreamscapes Soother (Leapfrog) is another wonderful musical toy.
--Soft books. Plush books are sure to keep your baby occupied-- he or she will love to turn the soft pages of a favorite story. Lullaby and Goodnight Soft Bedtime Activity Book (Pockets of Learning), Look Baby Soft Book and Fly Away Ladybug (both by Lamaze) are all good choices. Many soft books are machine washable as well.
--Soft blocks. Stack them up and let them tumble! Your baby will love getting creative with some soft, plush blocks. Knock Knock Soft Blocks (IQ Baby Toys) are fun and colorful-- and big enough for little hands to stack with ease.
Other popular crib toys that your baby will love:
-- Rock-a-Stack (Fisher Price) is the classic stackable ring toy-- colorful rings can be stacked on a cone for hours of fun. Lamaze Multi Sensory Stacking Rings is a plush ring toy that comes complete with textured, lightly scented rings.
-- Link-a-Doos Kick and Play Piano (Fisher Price) attaches to the crib so your baby can kick it to hear musical notes, animal sounds, letters and numbers.
-- The New Gloworm (Hasbro). Squeeze this soft, loveable worm and his face lights up and music starts to play. Winnie the Pooh Lullaby Soother (Fisher Price) is another huggable toy (and it can be programmed by mom or dad to play music for up to 25 minutes).
-- Lamaze My First Fishbowl (Learning Curve). This plush fishbowl comes complete with soft cuddly fish and other sea creatures.
-- Baby Einstein Discover and Play Developmental Set (Baby Einstein). This set includes a rattle that plays classical music, an activity ring, a teething ring and alphabet discovery cards.
-- Lamaze Octotunes or Touch and Kick Butterfly (Learning Curve). Hug the colorful, plush octopus and hear musical notes. The Lamaze Touch and Kick Butterfly features music and lights when baby touches the butterfly¡¯s wings.
-- Developlay Activity Center (Tiny Love). This toy is full of music and fun activities that will keep your baby occupied. Turn it over as your baby grows older for more play activities. Double the fun!
-- Baby Counting Pal (Leapfrog). Attach this toy to baby¡¯s crib and open him or her up to a world of learning activities. From classical music to counting to fun animal sounds-- this toy has it all.
-- My Friend Emily (Lamaze). This soft doll will be a great best friend for your baby. She comes with baby-friendly accessories and is machine washable.
Finally, make sure that you only give your baby age appropriate toys-- avoid toys with small pieces and dolls or stuffed animals that have eyes that could come loose. Also, be careful not to pile too many toys in your baby¡¯s crib at once. Instead, rotate the toys and your baby will always have something new to play with.
