It is better to be safe than sorry. If you are a believer in magic, it can't hurt to tap into those energies to try and protect yourself, your vehicle, and everyone with whom you share the road. Try some of these spells and charms to promote safety and security. 

TO PROTECT YOUR CAR FROM ACCIDENTS

To perform this spell, you will need a red candle, a vial of cinnamon oil, 3 cloves, a cleansed and consecrated obsidian, a black permanent marker, and a red pouch. Bring them into your car to perform this in a private place, like your garage or an empty parking lot. 

Take the candle and dress it with the vial of cinnamon oil by rubbing the oil from the center out to the ends. As you do this, visualize your intent (protection).

Place the candle on the dashboard and light it. Call on Mars, God of travel, or on your patron deity. Take the red pouch and the black magic marker, and draw a protective symbol on it, such as a pentagram (five pointed star enclosed in a circle), or the ancient rune RHAIDO, a symbol to protect travelers.

Take the cloves in your hands ask Mars (or your deity) to help you raise and unleash their protective energies with these or similar words:

Take one clove at a time, holding it by the stem and dipping it in the pool of candle wax (be careful not to burn your fingers), saying one line for each clove:

TO PROTECT ALL WITHIN THIS CAR FROM ROAD HAZARDS

As you dip each one in candle wax, hold it up for a second, let it dry, and place it into the pouch. 

Take the obsidian stone in your hand, which has powerful reflective qualities. Meditate and envision a giant obsidian stone surrounding your car like a protective shell, reflecting and repelling all harm that might come your way. When you're done, place the stone in the pouch, tie up the pouch, and hide it in the glove compartment, or under the drivers seat. If you ever feel the need to strengthen the spell, remove the obsidian and meditate on it again, and ask Mars to recharge the cloves.

TO KEEP YOUR CAR SAFE FROM THEFT

This simple kitchen magic will help you create a powerful potion to keep thieves from your car. You will need a vial of dragon's blood oil, some juniper berries, a five-pointed star drawn on a piece of paper in black marker, a white candle, and a glass bottle with a good seal. 

In a non-reactive pot, simmer 1/8 cup of base oil, such jojoba or olive oil, on a very low heat. Consecrate and empower the vial of dragon¡¯s blood and pour it in, stirring clockwise 9 times. Take the juniper berries and crush them with a mortar and pestle, imagining thieves being "crushed" by the powers of the law. Build up a mental image very clearly in your mind of police officers, handcuffs, court, angry judges, small jail cells, misery, and anything else you can pour into the visualization. Put the crushed berries into the oil and stir 9 times around, counter-clockwise. Turn off the heat.

Light your white candle, visualizing the white light of universal protection pouring out of it. Take your pentagram paper and hold it in the flame, igniting it, then throw it into a heat-proof container to burn. When the embers are cool, sprinkle the ashes into the oil and stir 9 times clockwise. 

Strain the oil and place it in the glass jar. Take it to your car on the night of a full moon and anoint all the locks (including your trunk), dab a bit on the ignition, and, if you like, a small dab on each window to prevent smashing. Another good idea, with gas theft having risen with the cost of gasoline prices, is to dab some on your gas cap. 

If you like, keep the jar in your glove compartment or trunk, wrapped in a fluffy towel to keep it from breaking, and re-anoint it on the full moons to keep it strong. The more often you anoint the car, the more protection power will build up and thieves will be repelled by it.    

TO KEEP YOUR CAR FROM BREAKING DOWN

All you need for this is a moonstone necklace. Take the necklace and go by your car on the night of a full moon. Sit or lean on the hood while holding the moonstone in your receptive hand (the hand opposite the hand that you write with). Call to your patron Goddess, or any Goddess of protection (Moon Goddesses will especially work here), and say:

GREAT GODDESS, MOON MOTHER, LADY OF SOFT, PROTECTIVE LIGHT,

GUIDE YOUR CHILD AND DELIVER ME SAFELY AS I TRAVEL, DAY OR NIGHT.

SHINE YOUR LUNAR RAY OF POWER UPON ME AND MY CAR

AND SEND US HELP TO MAKE IT THROUGH, NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE.

Get into your car. Call to guardians of the four quarters, or to the arch angles, or to your animal spirit guides, or to whomever you feel comfortable. Call four of them as you have your eyes closed and are meditating. Explain to them that, if you are far from home and your car beings to act funny, or if you feel frightened or threatened, that you will call for them. Ask them to come and help you, for each one to take a corner of the car and help bring you home safely, or to a place where you can rest safely and get your car fixed. 

Thank your Goddess and your guides. If ever you find yourself having trouble with your car on the road, call to them and know that they are coming to see you safely home. Hang the moonstone on your rear view mirror and know that the protection of the Goddess radiates from it.  

A NOTE ABOUT COMMON SENSE:

Remember, even the most powerful magic is no match for ordinary carelessness and stupidity. If someone throws a punch at you, you don't stop and perform the banishing ritual of the pentagram-- you duck. If you're going to drive while intoxicated or exhausted, or speed recklessly to get from one place to another, if you're going to leave your top down and your keys in the ignition, or ignore those squeaking breaks and knocking engine for months without so much as checking your oil, there is no magic in the world that can help you. Magic is practical and only works on a metaphysical level to aid you in the physical, mundane effort and thought you have put into something. Drive carefully, keep your doors locked and your keys with you, have your car well maintained and repaired when problems are still minor, and your magic will have something on which to operate.
