When planning a family trip, a summer time vacation, or just a weekend getaway you have to plan and pack ahead of time especially if you have children. When traveling with a child, you always want to be prepared for the unknown. You never know when your child will come down with a fever, spill soup on his lap, or throw up on his kid sister. Even though you don¡¯t know when it¡¯s coming, you still can be prepared for it.
It is ideal to write a detailed list of what you will need to pack for yourself and your children, at least a week before the start of your vacation. This will make your packing more efficient and less stressful, and you will most likely not forget anything. If you are traveling on an airplane or in a car, it is recommended to have a small bag with athe following necessities inside:
wet wipes - to clean any spills or dirty, sticky hands
facial tissue - to blow your child¡¯s nose
antibacterial hand gel - to kill germs after using a public bathroom
small trash bag - to catch the vomit of any sick child
crackers - to help settle a child¡¯s upset stomach
extra set of clothes for your child
children¡¯s pain and fever reducer
cell phone
When packing your child¡¯s suitcase for the trip, you will have to ask yourself a couple of questions. How many days will we be gone? What will the weather be like where we are going? Does my child need dress clothes or just casual clothes? What kind of shoes will my child need?
These are all very important questions. Remember, you will need to pack more than just one outfit for your child per day. Children easily get their clothes messy and the weather changes throughout the day also. Next, be sure to pack clothes that are weather permitting. Even if you are going some place warm, you will want to pack pants and sweaters for the evenings. If you are planning on going out for dinner at an upscale restaurant, or going to see a play or ballet, you will have to pack dress clothes and shoes for your child. You may want to hang the dress clothes inside of a bag, so they don¡¯t get wrinkled or stained. When deciding what kind of shoes to pack, ask yourself where you will be going during your vacation. If you are going hiking, pack boots, or hiking shoes. If you are going dancing, pack dancing shoes. But always make sure your child¡¯s shoes fit well and are comfortable. This will make your trip a happy one!
When traveling with a baby, you will have to pack a few more things. Most hotels offer cribs or play pens, but you may want to think about buying a travel bassinet. This way you will know your baby¡¯s bed is clean and safe. Another good thing to think about bringing with is a travel baby swing. Most fold up very compactly so they will not take up a lot of room. Your baby will be a lot happier in the hotel room with the comfort of a swing. You will also want to pack a few toys to keep your baby occupied during the ride or flight. This will make the trip go by a lot faster. Another thing to think about packing is a stroller or strap on baby carrier. This will let you shop and sight see without everybody fighting over who has to carry the baby. Remember to always pack plenty of diapers, wet wipes, burp clothes, changing pads and extra clothes. If there are any accidents, you will not have to go back to the hotel.
When packing for a trip with a child, never pack the night before. Be thorough with your list, and you will most likely not have to stop at a Wal-Mart before sightseeing! And remember - don¡¯t forget your toothbrush and toothpaste!
