If you are a teen who prefers the wide open spaces while working, you may be looking for an outdoor job after high school graduation or during the summers. Outside work can be relaxing, enjoyable, and fun if you're careful to avoid too much direct sunlight and take precautions against bees and other insects. Here are some of the jobs you may be able to perform for decent pay:

1. Lawn service. Performing lawn care is perhaps the easiest type of work to do, since you probably have experience caring for your family's property. Mowing the grass, shredding or composting the clippings, raking leaves, trimming shrubs, and edging walkways or borders are some of the tasks associated with lawn care or yard work. Ask your parents to use or rent their equipment from your earnings, or buy your own, one piece at a time. Remember to budget part of your income for gas, trimmer string, and equipment repairs or supplies. Mowing a small to medium lawn might earn twenty-five dollars, with more for larger properties.

2. Farm work. If you live in the country or have transportation to the outskirts of your city, you can become a farm hand. Learn what, where, and when to feed cows, goats, chickens, and horses. You may milk the cows, exercise the horses, clean stalls, or butcher chickens, depending on the type of farm or ranch where you work. Building or repairing fences, mending tools, driving a tractor, or other kinds of outdoor duties may comprise a typical day. Most likely you will learn to do a variety of tasks.

3. Landscaping jobs. Apprenticing to a master landscape artist, you will study the aesthetics of an attractive property and learn how to arrange, design, and reorganize outdoor features for maximum effect. Eventually you will be able to work on your own and perhaps take on an assistant or two as you build a client base and develop your own artistic style in making people's lands and yards more aesthetically pleasing. House painting, shed building, flower planting, and a host of other jobs will help to hone your craft.

4. Gardening. Planting, tilling, and harvesting a garden provides valuable experience in working the land for fun and profit. You can save on your family's grocery bill by providing fresh produce in season, with the leftovers canned for winter. You will learn about soil composure, nitrogen concentrates, pesticides and fungicides, fertilizers, and other ways of enhancing plant growth for beautiful flowers and delicious food. To turn this work into a profitable venture, you can serve as a consultant to neighbors or assist with manual labor. 

5. Park preservation. If you live near a metropolitan, county, state, or federal park system, you may be able to get hired as a field hand to help with managing overgrowth, trimming branches, removing deadwood, and preserving paths. Wildlife may need to be tracked, fed, or branded for their protection. Repairing or refurbishing picnic tables and shelters as well as restocking ponds or restoring paths are additional services that you can provide in this line of work.
