Do you remember the Peanuts cartoon when Charlie Brown picked out the skimpiest, scrawniest Christmas tree on the lot, and then lovingly transformed it into a beautiful holiday showpiece? There was a lesson to be had in that story. Charlie Brown had a vision. He saw that his tree had potential and he did something about it.
Perhaps you are looking for a new way to decorate your Christmas tree this holiday season. Maybe you¡¯re tired of using the same old ornaments year after year, or maybe you¡¯re just starting out and don¡¯t have money to buy a lot of ornaments and lights. Whatever the case may be, there are many creative ways to add your own personal touch to your Christmas tree. Read on for some unique ways to decorate your tree this upcoming holiday season.
-Make a tree of out of toys. Decorate your tree with little toys, cars, dolls, small teddy bears and other stuffed animals.
-Bring a taste of nature into your holidays. Adorn you tree with colorful dried flowers, baby¡¯s breath, pinecones and berries. Your tree will be breathtakingly beautiful.
-Missing the warm weather? Bring summer back by decorating your tree with seashells that you collected at the beach last summer. Make a garland out of fishnet and top with a starfish.
-Be literate. Place children¡¯s story books or beloved Christmas books on the branches of your tree. String plastic or wooden alphabet letters to hang amidst the books.
-Make a candy tree. Hang candy canes, a garland made of Lifesavers, strings of gumdrops and chocolate Kisses from the branches. Yum!
-Do it all one color. A tree d¨¦cor done in all one color (various shades of blue ornaments, for example) can be stunning. You can even purchase lights of the same color to accent the d¨¦cor.
-Photo tree. If you are an avid photographer, make double prints of your photos and decorate your tree with them. Punch a small hole in one corner of the photos and loop some colored string through to hang them.
-Make a baby tree. Are you expecting a baby sometime during or after the Christmas season? Decorate your tree in anticipation of your upcoming arrival. If you know the sex of your baby, decorate the tree in all pink or all blue. Hang little rattles, toys and baby booties, and tie pink or blue ribbons on the branches.
-Create a paper tree. You can decorate your entire tree using ornaments made out of paper. Make a paper chain garland and cut construction paper into a variety of shapes for hanging.
-Showcase your hobby. Are you an avid golfer? Decorate your tree with golf balls and tees. Accent with green and white bows. Do you like to knit or macram¨¦? Decorate your tree with all- knit ornaments that you make yourself.
-Are you well-traveled? Make a world tree. Display your postcard collection by placing cards from all over the world on your tree branches. Accent with miniature flags from various countries, as well as any small souvenirs you have picked up on your travels.
-Display your collections. Do you collect snowmen? Make a snowman themed tree. Are angels your thing? Scour specialty shops for unique and distinctive angel ornaments.
Finally, just take a look at your surroundings. Your personality is reflected in your home d¨¦cor-- transfer some of that flair to your holiday tree! And, just like Charlie Brown, you may find a treasure where you least expect it.
