Times flies when you have a baby! One second you¡¯re worried about supporting your baby¡¯s neck as you are feeding her and allowing others to hold her and the next second you are chasing her around the house as she drags her favorite doll behind her. Can you believe your baby is already fifteen months old? What are some new developments you can expect from your fifteen-month old?

One thing you will notice right off is that your child is starting to really enjoy playing with her toys. No longer is she simply picking them up, licking them and then throwing them across the room. Now she is studying them, trying to figure out how they work and learning how to play with them correctly. It is definitely an amazing time to see your child¡¯s brain on overdrive as she begins to study those big plastic blocks and figure out which hole in the container to put them in. Be sure to continually encourage her when she realizes how a learning toy works, so she is motivated to continue thinking.

Remember when your baby would stare up at you and smile randomly? You could just be sitting there holding her, watching TV and out of the corner of your eye you could see the corners of her mouth starting to turn up. These smiles came quickly and randomly. Now, your fifteen-month old is starting to distinguish those things and situations she finds funny. She may start laughing at your simple jokes or you may find her giggling as she watches something funny on Sesame Street. 

Overall, you will notice that your child is starting to develop her own little personality. You will begin to notice those situations that she finds frustrating or those events that make her happy. She is beginning to really display how she feels with you. Now is the time not only for temper tantrums when you scold her for pulling the family dog¡¯s fur, but also for those special moments when she cuddles up to you as you read her a bedtime story or when she kisses you goodbye as you drop her off at her grandmother¡¯s house. 

Do not forget to take your child to her fifteen month checkup. During this appointment, she will probably get immunization shots for chicken pox, measles, rubella and mumps. Your pediatrician will measure and weigh your child to determine if she is growing at a proper rate. At this appointment, be sure to discuss any concerns or questions you may have with your pediatrician concerning your child¡¯s development.

As your child begins to hold her crayons and her toys, you will start to notice which hand she favors more, thus, whether she will be left-handed or right-handed. Her hand-eye coordination and walking skills are accelerating at a rapid rate. No longer does she walk on unsteady ¡°sea legs.¡± Now she is starting to run and climb up stairs. 

You will also notice that her memory is getting a lot better. She will remember that her favorite doll is in a certain basket or that she needs to help you in the morning as you prepare her breakfast. Whereas she once stared at you blankly as you asked her to get a pencil for you, now she is beginning to understand what you are talking about without your having to point it out.
