For the flower lover on your gift list, why not make a beautiful flowerpot gift bag to hold their special present? A flowerpot gift bag is a unique way to give someone a gift they¡¯ll never forget. It can be converted into a container for artificial flowers that will look lovely when used as a centerpiece.
First of all you will need a plain paper bag. Goody bags work well for this project, and they are available in every color of the rainbow. You can find them in almost every store that sells party supplies. You will also need 2 plain white paper plates, a pencil, scissors, a low-temp glue gun, glue sticks, acrylic craft paint for the flowerpot, a paintbrush, clear-drying craft glue, and artificial flowers of your choice. In addition you need paper twist to match the gift bag. This will be used to make the handles for the bag as well as a decorative bow for the flowerpot.
Begin the project by making the flowerpot for the gift bag. In the center of a plain white paper plate, draw the shape of a flowerpot. Cut out the shape, and make an exact duplicate for the back of the bag. Create the second shape by tracing around the first shape with a pencil. Cut out the second shape. Paint the flowerpots with acrylic craft paint in a color of your choice. For a natural looking flower pot, use paint that¡¯s terracotta in color. Set the flowerpot cutouts aside to dry.
After the flowerpot cutouts have dried, glue one to the front of the bag, and glue one to the back of the bag. Be sure to leave the top of the flowerpot open so flowers can be placed inside. Line up the flowerpots so they are parallel to each other on opposite sides of the bag. Allow the glue plenty of time to dry.
While the glue is drying begin choosing the flowers for the flowerpot gift bag. Small silk flowers on plastic and wire stems work well for this project. Choose flowers such as small daisies, asters, or violas. Choose fill-in flowers such as dried baby¡¯s breath or small fragrant sprigs of eucalyptus. Begin trimming the stems so the flowers are the appropriate lengths for the height of the bag.
After the glue has dried and the flowerpots are securely attached to the gift bag, begin placing flowers inside the pot. Apply craft glue to the stems of the largest flowers, and place them in the pot first. Fill the front and back of the bag simultaneously so the flowers are in the same positions. The finished bag will appear to have a front and back view of the same flowerpot. Arrange and attach the smaller fill-in flowers last. Cut them to the appropriate lengths, put a small amount of glue along the stems, and place them inside the front and back flowerpots. After the pots are both filled, set the bag aside, and allow the glue to dry.
When the glue has dried you can make and attach handles to the gift bag. Preheat a low-temperature glue gun, and cut off two sections of color coordinated paper twist. Make each one about 6 inches long. Use the low-temp glue gun to attach the ends of the handles to the inside of the bag. Hold the glued areas in place until the glue begins to set.
The last step is to make a pretty color-coordinated bow for the front and back of the flowerpot. Cut off two sections of paper twist that is the same width as the flowerpot. Open the twisted paper, cut it to the appropriate length, and use craft glue to attach it under the rim of the flowerpot in the front and in the back. Make a small bow with another section of paper twist, and use the glue gun to attach it to the ribbon on the front of the pot. Let the glue dry overnight or for several hours before using the bag.
Line the finished bag with tissue paper of your choice, and add a special gift. Some gift suggestions are gift certificates for a flower shops or garden centers, flower seeds, garden gloves, gardening guides, or any other flower related gifts. You might also consider giving your friend or loved one a fragrant gift such as flower-scented cologne, bubble bath, or lotion. A floral-scented candle would also be appropriate for this beautiful gift bag.
After the gift has been removed from the bag, additional flowers can be used to fill the bag. The empty bag can serve as a flowerpot that can be placed on a table or shelf. Provide the gift recipient with additional matching flowers so they can use the gift bag in this manner.
This gift bag with matching gifts are sure to be one of the most unique and lovely presents you can give to someone you care for. They¡¯re sure to love this gift that keeps on giving! |
