It is very difficult leaving your baby or toddler with a baby sitter for the first time. Granted, the very first time you do so, you will probably be so preoccupied with how your baby is doing, you will not enjoy your night away. As time goes on, however, and, especially if you have a trusted babysitter, you will feel more at ease with leaving your child with them. Before leaving your baby with anybody, including a friend, relative or babysitter, you always want them to be prepared for anything, whether it be little essentials or an emergency. Here is a list of items and information you should give your babysitter when leaving your child with them.
* The most important thing you can leave your babysitter is your own contact information. Let them know where you will be and for how long. Leave a phone number where they can reach you (a cell phone number) or somebody else in your party, like a spouse or friend. If you are able to be reached, make sure that your own phone is fully charged and on.
*Also leave your babysitter with a backup contact person. For example, if you are unable to be reached (perhaps the location you are at is not in your cell phone service area), make sure they have a phone number and cell phone number of a trusted friend or mother or relative.
*Should your baby be sick or there is an emergency, make sure your babysitter has the phone number of your pediatrician or family physician and the number and directions to the closest hospital or emergency clinic. Leave the baby¡¯s health information (like an insurance card) with your babysitter, should she need it. In addition, always leave a written and signed note authorizing your babysitter to use this insurance card if your child needs to be taken to the emergency room for any reason.
*Let your babysitter know of any allergies your baby may have, including medicines and foods.
*If your babysitter will need to provide a meal for your toddler, leave them some cash, as well.
*More than likely, your babysitter will not need to drive your child around anywhere, but if there is an emergency, make sure to leave your babysitter the baby car seat and explain to them how to use it.
*If the babysitter is staying at your own home and you have a security system, make sure they know how to arm and disarm it.
*Most babies are on a feeding schedule, so make sure you let your babysitter know when to feed your baby and when he/she should go to sleep. Leave extra bottles of breast milk or formula that are ready to be used.
*Bring a bag full of extra diapers, baby powder, extra formula, extra bottles, burping cloths, an extra set of baby clothes, pacifiers, blankets and toys for your child.
*If the babysitter is at your own home, let them know where you keep your fire extinguisher and first aid kit, should they need it. |
